Lazarus 2009

oregon white wine from whistling ridge, winter's hill and bishop creek

Matello Tech Sheet: Lazarus 2009
AVA
: Willamette Valley
Cases Produced:
420
Vineyards
: Whistling Ridge, Winter’s Hill, Bishop Creek

The Lazarus cuvee is a blend of 17 barrels from 3 of our vineyards: Whistling Ridge, Winter’s Hill, and Bishop Creek. Average vine age is 20 years old, and all three vineyards are dry farmed  vineyards (of which 2 are certified LIVE). This cuvee highlights the pretty fruit, and forward character of the vintage. Friendly, forward, and precocious, the 2009 Lazarus will develop well for the next 5-10 years.

Caprice White Wine

caprice white wine, pinot blanc and pinot gris from oregon

AVA: Yamhill-Carlton
Cases Produced: 112
Vineyard: Fircrest
Varietals: 80% Pinot Blanc/20% Pinot Gris

The Caprice white wine is produced from a single block of fruit planted to Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The vineyard soils are from the oldest marine sedimentary deposits in Oregon. Shallow, they hold little water through the long dry summers in Oregon. The wet weather we are known for is a rare occurrence after the second week of June and usually only returns in late September or October. Forcing the plants to dig deeply into the earth in their struggle to find for moisture and the result is concentrated berries with inherent minerality and higher acidity.

While the name may seem lighthearted, Caprice is a more serious wine. To highlight the nature of the vineyard, the fruit is fermented cool and slow in stainless steel to maintain fruit purity, malo‐lactic is blocked to keep the wine vibrant, and the Caprice ages for 18 months on the fine lees before bottling.

Rosé of Pinot Noir 2010

rose of pinot noir from oregon

AVA: Willamette Valley
Cases produced: 92
Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir

The 2010 Rosé was produced from a single block of fruit harvested specifically for rosé production. The fruit was harvested in late October, fruit quality was very good and the extended hang time produced excellent flavor development.

The 2009 rosé has a wonderful combination of fresh strawberries, watermelon, and hibiscus in the nose. Lush bright red fruits fill the mouth rounded out with notes of soft citrus and soft yet persistent acidity. Balance and purity are exceptional. While this wine is very easy to drink on it’s own, I highly recommend matching it with roasted chicken, lighter pork dishes, grilled vegetables, and milder Asian dishes.
